OUR SINCERE THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO MADE THIS YEARS HEAD OF THE
OAKLAND ESTUARY / ROW FOR THE CURE SUCH A TREMENDOUS SUCCESS!
We couldn't have put on the event without the help of the Oakland Strokes,
the City of Oakland Parks and Recreation, the County of Alameda Department
of Bridges and all of the volunteers who were on the job before dawn. Our
US Rowing referee and starter kept the race running smoothly and on schedule,
and Cal Crew graciously provided launches and drivers for the start line officials.
We would also like to extend a special thanks to the City of Oakland Fire
Department Swift Water Rescue team who had boats and jetskis on the water
throughout the entire regatta ensuring the safety of our participants.
There was an excellent turnout for this year's regatta. The weather forecast
for rain proved to be untrue, and the conditions were perfect. Some awesome
displays of rowing took place throughout the day. We had an excellent turnout
with some great match ups and rivalries.
The "Row for the Cure©" benefit exceeded all of our expectations for
it's inaugural year. We raised over $10,000.00; 100% of which goes to the
Susan G Komen Foundation. We had donations in
all amounts, from a few dollars to over a thousand. The pledge drive and raffle were
a big hits, with the Dreher oars donated by the
Masters Rowing Association going to
the highest pledge total and the a brand new erg donated by
Concept 2 going to a very lucky raffle
winner. We had many inquiries about the benefit and lots of support for making it
an annual event. Our most sincere thanks go out to all of the participants
and pledgers who made it such a success.
We look forward to seeing all of you next year!
