** Lake Merritt Sprints Final Schedule **
Enclosed is the final schedule for the 1998 Lake Merritt Sprints Regatta, Sunday July 26 at Lake Merritt in Oakland. Races will be held at eight minute intervals. Please carefully check your races to make sure you have enough time between events - 30 minutes is recommended. Most events are full, so please allow adequate time to maneuver on and off the water.
Starts will not be held for late arrivals.
Scratches/change of line-up: Please notify the Registrar by phone (510-525-5019) or preferably, by e-mail (Kimberly.Hart@ucop.edu), or stop by the registration desk on Sunday morning. We need to notify the judge referee at the start line if you are not racing, and the statistician for masters' handicapping and correct reporting of results. No changes in line-up will be accepted within two hours of the posted start time of the race. No entries will be accepted on race day.
Waiver/Age Reporting/Fees: If you need to sign a waiver, report your age, or turn in race fees please stop by the Registrar's desk on Sunday morning.
Cox'n's meeting: The coxswain's meeting will be held Sunday at 6:45 a.m. near the Registration desk.
Weigh-ins (lightweights): Will be available starting Sunday at 6:45 a.m.
Parking: See enclosed map for directions to Lake Merritt. Plan to unload your trailer onto the lawn off Lakeside Drive, the move your trailer as instructed by the parking czar.
Races: All races will be 1000 meters. Stake boats will be in place, and a six-lane buoyed course will be set in place. Some races will be running with a seventh lane. BOW NUMBERS ARE REQUIRED (bring your own). This is not a USRA registered regatta, but USRA recommendations for safety will be followed (bow balls and heel tie downs or quick release shoes are required).
COMPETITOR CATEGORIES
MASTERS: USRA age groups (A: 27-35; B: 36-42; C: 43-49; D: 50-54; E: 55-59; F: 60-64; G: 65-69; H: 70-74; I: 75-79; J: 80+) will be used. All masters races in combined age groups will be handicapped. Ages are as of 12/31/98. In team boats the average age of the rowers (excluding cox) determines the age group and handicap, if age groups are combined.
COXSWAINS: May be any gender, age, weight, or level of experience.
LIGHTWEIGHTS: Men 160 lb. Max, women 130 lb. Max.
INTERMEDIATE: Intended for crews composed entirely of rowers who have recently graduated from a novice program, or who are returning to rowing after a significant absence.
MIXED: One-half (or more) women rowers.
OPEN WATER: Maas Aeros, Maas 24s and other open water boats.
