1520 Lakeside Drive, Oakland, California
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Thank you to everyone that helped make the 2003 Lake Merritt Sprints a successful regatta. We would like to thank all the volunteers who worked so hard over the past few months and days to make this event a reality. To the Official Referees, without whom we never could carry out such an event, a very special thanks. Kudos on their ability to keep the regatta on time!
Behind the scenes, we had the invaluable support and assistance of the Oakland Parks and Recreation Department, making sure the sprinklers didn't come on at the wrong time, keeping the Lakeside area clean, and providing a launch and driver to help cover the racing on the lake. Thanks also to Oakland Strokes who generously lent us launches and engines.
Thank you to our vendor, JL. Their participation at the regatta was a welcome and needed addition. Special thanks to Richard Todd who was out on the water photographing the event. Proofs of his photos can be found at http://ftp.rtpfaa.com/.
The most important thank you goes to all the participants. We had a record number of entries this year from 21 clubs and organizations. There were over 300 participants in 52 finals. Thank you all for your patience and cooperation; it was quite a hectic day!
T-shirts are still available for purchase (sizes and styles are limited). Email
with your requests.
Again thanks again to everyone who made this event a pleasure to run. I hope to see you all next year at Sprints 2004.
Candace Swimmer, Regatta Director and The Regatta Committee

The Lake Merritt Rowing Club strives to make this regatta enjoyable for all competitors, officials, volunteers, and spectators. Our goal is to maximize racing opportunities for all competitors, start races on time, minimize any confusion over entries and lane assignments, and to post timely and accurate race results. To help facilitate our goal of running a smooth regatta, the following rules have been developed.
RULES TO LIVE BY:
- Scratches after July 25th will be charged $15 for each race scratched with no refund. If you must scratch, please let the Registrar know as soon as possible. There is no fee for scratches by July 25th and your race fee will be refunded.
- Any changes to your entry categories will be on a space available basis only. There will be no refunds for changes made after July 25th that we are not able to accommodate. For example: if a women's 4+ is entered in the 4+ WOLt race, and wants to switch to the 4+ WO race, we will make every effort to accommodate the change. If we are not able to, and the competitor chooses not to race, the entry will be considered a 'scratch' and charged accordingly.
- No more than 50% of the competitors entered in a boat may be changed. For example, if an 8+ is entered, no more than four competitors may be replaced in the boat. No competitors can be substituted in 1X races.
- After July 25th, if competitor changes effect the average age of the boat, the registrar reserves the right to scratch the entry with no refund and no scratch fee.
- All competitor changes must be submitted to the Registrar prior to the first race of the day on Sunday, August 3rd. NO COMPETITOR CHANGES will be accepted after racing has begun - no exceptions!
- All entries and changes must be made in writing via the mail or email. Entries are considered received and accepted by the Registrar if the complete entry, including fees, is received by Friday, July 25th, and there is space remaining in the race at the time the entry is received. Please note, if you use email to enter, your entry will be considered received when the fee is received.
- No entries will be accepted after Friday, July 25th. There are no exceptions!
- If we must cancel an event due to insufficient entries, the contact person on the entry form will be notified and the entry fees refunded.
REMEMBER:
- All entries must be submitted using the Forms at Regatta Central. Completed waivers are required for entry to be complete.
- Entries must be received by Friday, July 18th to register at the lower fee rate.
- Late entries will be accepted through Friday, July 25th, on a space-available basis.
- No entries will be accepted after Friday, July 25th!
- Please bring bow numbers.
